Superman

Superheroes took over my psyche and value system long before common sense and Gloria Steinem suggested females could be heroes too.

Never mind my chromosomes, from an early age I knew I should, could and would be a rescuer and a fixer.

I morphed into Superman long after phone booths ceased to be a blight on the American landscape. I was enamored of, smitten with and awe-struck by every masked and un-masked hero who showed up in the nick of time.

My youthful daydreams were about releasing the ties that bound damsels to railroad tracks, rescuing Cinderella from her wicked stepmother, and dog paddling against the raging waters of Niagara Falls with a drowning tourist in each hand – all formative fantasies that persisted well into adulthood with only minor alterations.
